WASHINGTON — State Rep. Lucky Lamons, on track for months to be the next U.S. marshal in Tulsa, will not be nominated for the federal post because of a discrepancy he caused in the vetting process.

Lamons, D-Tulsa, confirmed in a written statement that his expected nomination will not move forward. He took full responsibility for what he termed an oversight.

“During my oral interview, I was asked if I had ever been investigated by Internal Affairs,” said the former veteran police officer.

“I detailed the facts related to three separate complaints that occurred in the 1980s while on the Tulsa Police Department. Two weeks after the interview, it was brought to my attention that my oral interview answer concerning the complaints had not been documented on my written application.”

Lamons said the Department of Justice informed him he was ineligible to move forward in the nomination process.

“I take full responsibility,” he said. “I trust God must have another plan for me and my family.”

Lamons thanked two top Oklahoma Democrats, U.S. Rep. Dan Boren and Gov. Brad Henry, and others in the state’s congressional delegation for their support.

Boren and Henry reportedly submitted his name to the Obama administration.

Henry, who has avoided discussing his role in the process previously, once again declined to comment.
